In an exciting development for eye health, the Ophthalmology Department at Chulalongkorn Hospital, together with the Chulalongkorn Eye Center Alumni Team, achieved a remarkable feat by performing 31 successful eye muscle surgeries to correct strabismus, or crossed eyes.
This event took place from June 13th to June 16th, 2023 (2566) at Srisaket Hospital, where the Outpatient Department, Inpatient Department, and Ophthalmic operating room. Led by pediatrics and strabismus ophthalmologists – Dr.Parnchat Pukrushpan, Dr.Natthiya Lailaksiri along with the skilled Chulalongkorn Eye Center alumni team, including Dr.Worapoj Srimanan, Dr.Kidakarn Meetongkam, and Dr.Sanpraporn Uttamapinan, the collaboration demonstrated the hospital’s dedication to improving eye care.
Throughout the four-day event, a total of 65 patients received evaluation and treatment at the Outpatient Department. Among them, 25 patients underwent specialized eye muscle surgery, with 31 affected eyes successfully treated. Forty-seven muscle surgeries were performed on the targeted eye muscles, effectively correcting the strabismus.
Key to the success of the surgeries were the contributions of pediatric anesthesiologists Dr.Sudapree Sorasuchat, Dr.Phoom Pondsuksawang, and Dr.Nanthapat Soonthornnithikul, who ensured the comfort and safety of the patients during the procedures.
The positive outcomes of this initiative go beyond physical relief and appearance.
